Ruth - I am glad that this article was helpful to you. If you are interested in further skills and tools to use at home with your daughter to improve her empathy skills and emotion management, you may be interested in attending Second Step Family Guide sessions. Beginning October 7th, we are beginning a series of 6 classes (cost-free) which focus on these tools. We will have healthy snacks and free childcare available too! The classes run from 6:30pm to 8:00pm and will be held at the Grass Valley School Readiness office. (please check out the flyer posted on the School Readiness tab of this website or just give me a call at 530/273-4059 if you would like to participate. Thank you.

thank you so much, this is exactly what I needed today. I'm have having trouble teaching my daughter the difference between tantrum behavior/control and it being ok to cry/get mad/sad/angry. Ugh very challenging for me. I am going to try some of the things suggested in this article.

Thanks

Absolutely toddlers need nutrition but their diet is meager as compared to an adult. It's incorrect to pressurize the kid to have food, one way out is you can supplement the meal with some health drink which would replenish his dietary requirements.

I really identify with thiis article. Every Christmas I hear about people in shopping malls fighting over the IT toy and I cringe. I don't remember presents from childhood, I remember traditions. My daughter's birthday being a couple weeks after Christmas has allowed us to make some guidelines in this, her first year of holidays. We are celebrating Christmas with one gift, and many traditions, and then saving other gifts for her birthday. I am glad that other parents are trying to make the shift.

Hi there-
I hear you about the memory thing and I agree with all of the potential causes you listed. I remember forgetting my home address one day and thats when I began looking for some help. I feel I have benefited from taking an Essential Fatty Acid supplement with Flax and Fish oil. It really seems to help my mind function at close to prebaby speeds. If you are interested Briar Patch, Natural Selection and Ca. Organics has some supplements to choose from. Good luck!

Amanda,

thanks for the link to Greater Good magazine. You may also be interested in an article we published about the Second Step program. The article is available at http://greatergood.berkeley.edu/greatergood/2007winter/Friedman.html

Would you be able to recommend Greater Good to other First5 resource sites and/or blogs?

Thanks, Tom
